The professional with whom the dentist excels!

Are you a nursing student or recent graduate and want to work in a dental office or do you already work in a dental office where you learned on the go, but you feel like you lack the logical foundation to explain why certain things are done in the dental office?

It’s time to truly understand the job of a dental assistant – not just to perform, but to truly contribute to the medical act.

What does it mean to be a dental nurse from a legal point of view?

When it comes to successful dental treatments, dental nurses play an extremely important role. In addition to partnering with the dentist, both the connection with the patient and their safety are in their hands.

A dental nurse is, therefore, an indispensable professional, alongside whom the dentist can excel. To practice this profession in Romania, a Free Practice Certificate (ALP) is required, registered with OAMGMAMR (Order of General Nurses, Midwives and Medical Assistants of Romania). This certificate is obtained on the basis of a nursing diploma, issued by an accredited educational institution in the country.

To become a dental nurse, it is not enough to just have technical knowledge in the dental field – your personal qualities and the way you relate to patients and the team are just as important.

It is important to have excellent communication skills, an empathetic attitude and a caring nature. In addition, you must be:

  • extremely organized and attentive to details;
  • friendly and approachable;
  • a trustworthy person;
  • calm in any situation;
  • flexible enough to deal with unforeseen challenges in the office.

What are the duties of a dental nurse (job description)?

  • Preparing the materials necessary for dental treatments according to the dentist’s instructions.
  • Preparing dental instruments and making them available to the dentist according to his instructions.
  • Disinfection and sterilization of dental instruments according to the doctor’s instructions (pre-sterilization of instruments and mechanical cleaning).
  • Preparation of solutions necessary for instrument disinfection according to specific instructions.
  • Sending dental instruments for sterilization, proper disinfection and cleaning, packaging and bringing sterilized dental instruments from sterilization to the office.
  • Checking the date and time on the labels of sterilized boxes.
  • Chemical disinfection after each patient of the handpieces, air-water spray, saliva ejector and completion of the sterilization booklet.

  • Scheduling patients when there is no reception.
  • Sending impressions to the dental technician.
  • Guiding patients on dental hygiene according to the dentist’s instructions.
  • Preparing the dental office for the optimal conduct of the medical procedure.
  • Disinfection of work surfaces in the dental office and dental unit.
  • Preparing i.m. and i.v. injections according to the dentist’s instructions and performing injections in case of medical emergencies.
  • Recording in patient records, consultation register of procedures performed by the dentist.
  • Maintaining professional secrecy and ensuring that no person in his or her entourage harms professional secrecy.
  • Correct use and maintenance of the equipment existing in the office (dental unit, micromotor parts, straight piece, contra-angle piece, turbines, scaler, ultrasonic, photopolymerization lamp).
  • Disinfecting the suction with specific solutions and closing the dental unit at the end of the program.

What is the purpose of the “360° Dental Nursing” course?

The profession of dental assistant is an increasingly sought-after one, but difficult to train from scratch. Currently, more and more clinics and dental offices are looking for well-trained assistants who can support the doctor’s work from the first day in the office.

The problem? Training a dental assistant from scratch takes time, energy, and resources. A small practice with a small team can’t always afford to invest in months of training or take on long periods of adaptation. That’s why many clinics choose to hire only people who already have experience or a minimum of applied knowledge in the dental field.

The goal of this course is to give you clarity, security, and logic in what you do and to help you become a complete, confident dental nurse, ready to support the dentist and gain the trust of patients from the first day of work.

Basically, Smile Vision becomes your classroom, but also your learning laboratory.
